Garage With Quarters - Spring 2005

This 24'x24' Gambrel, located on the shores of Lake Hortonia, Vermont, is a garage package provided by Lavalley's building supply. Our customer designed the upstairs for a 2 bedroom Guest house. Fully insulated walls, floor, and ceiling provides a cozy romantic space heated by a propane furnace in the attic. We constructed a mudroom, hallway with closets for both bedrooms, and bathroom with composting facilities. The spacious 12'x18' bedrooms each have a dormer overlooking the lake with alcoves designed to accept the dressers. We installed 6 panel pine doors with matching closet louvered doors. We then added the pocket doors for the mudroom and bath to save space. The floors are finished in 6" knotty hardwood, while the mudroom sports Vermont slate. The exterior was finished off with vinyl siding, trim wrapped in aluminum, and a metal roof for virtually a maintenance free cottage.
